Pilot Mainstreaming BRCA Testing

The Edinburgh Breast Unit, within NHS Lothian, is piloting 'mainstreaming' of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.  The key aim is to further integrate genetic testing into the cancer patient pathway.

Where appropriate, these genetic tests can inform healthcare decisions for people with cancer.  The tests can also provide information which may be useful to their relatives and enable them to access appropriate healthcare.

Edinburgh Breast Unit clinicians wishing to request BRCA1 and BRCA2 testing are required to undertake the training available here and notify the genetics service when completed.
